Family 5K Run & Walk Program
Purpose:
To unite communities through an annual Thanksgiving Day 5K that raises sustainable funding for AED placements while building awareness, engagement, and long-term life-saving infrastructure.

Bolt for the Heart is dedicated to expanding access to lifesaving Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across Indiana.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest can happen anywhere—at a park, at school, at work, during a race, or in your neighborhood. Survival depends on immediate defibrillation within minutes. Bolt for the Heart exists to ensure that when that moment comes, a life-saving AED is already within reach.
Through community engagement, public safety partnerships, and strategic infrastructure initiatives, we are working to build communities where preparedness is built in—not left to chance.
Since its founding in 2010, Bolt for the Heart has helped place more than 3,500 AEDs across Indiana and has raised over $5.8 million to support life-saving initiatives that improve cardiac emergency response.
OUR PROGRAMS
Each initiative strengthens a different layer of emergency readiness. Together they form the Bolt for the Heart AED Access Ecosystem, expanding protection across communities, public spaces, first responders, and large public events.
Hometown Hero Program
Purpose:
To equip law enforcement patrol vehicles with lifesaving AEDs, reducing time to defibrillation and strengthening first-responder readiness during cardiac emergencies.
Heart Safe Community Program
Purpose:
To expand 24/7 public access to AEDs by installing strategically placed SaveStations in high-traffic community spaces, increasing survival potential where people live, gather, and play.
Rescue Ready Race Program
Purpose:
To ensure endurance events are fully prepared to respond to sudden cardiac arrest through proper AED coverage, volunteer readiness, and emergency communication planning.
