Every day, 1000 people die from a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. It does not discriminate. Of the 1000 people experiencing SCA each day, 16 of them are under the age of 18. Ninety-five percent of those who suffer SCA die because CPR and defibrillation usually occur too late, if at all. If CPR and an AED (automated external defibrillator) are applied within 5 minutes, at least 40,000 more lives could be saved

Bolt for the Heart is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization based out of Carmel, Indiana. Established in 2010, the mission of Bolt for the Heart is “to serve the central Indiana Community, particularly those affected by heart disease, through education, financial support and direct assistance”. Direct Assistance includes supporting local schools, churches and community organizations by purchasing and placing AEDs at their facilities free of charge.
In 2014, the mission of Bolt for the Heart was further defined to focus the AED donations on giving back to those who give so much – Our First Responders. In 2018 Bolt for the Heart completed their goal of placing an AED in the Indiana State Police vehicles. This accomplishment was acknowledged by Governor Holcomb with a donation ceremony in his office last fall. The 2019 goal now moves on to the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association and the local law enforcement agencies where we have identified approximately 1000 patrol vehicles in 92 Indiana Counties without AEDs.
Bolt for the Heart has initiated a “HOMETOWN HERO” program, where you can purchase an AED for Your Hometown Hero! With a tax-deductible donation of $1500 to Bolt for the Heart, an AED will be donated to the city or county of your choice. A Window Cling will be created with your company’s logo for the first responder vehicle to indicate that the AED carried within that vehicle was donated by You or Your Company. Further, if the AED is deployed by the first responder and a life is saved. You will be notified of the save.
