AED donated to St. Joseph County Police during ceremony

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – During a ceremony on Monday in South Bend, the St. Joseph County Police Department received a heart defibrillator from the Cardiac Science Corporation.

Police were honoring the life of Alex Verba, who passed away after suffering a heart attack on Christmas day.

A cardiologist from Elkhart, Teri Verba (Alex Verba’s wife) and representatives from Cardiac Science presented the defibrillator to the Department during the ceremony, and they hope that this donation will save lives in the future.

“I will just feel blessed if this saves even one life,” Verba said. “That someone can make a call and whoever’s got this can get there in time to save even just one life would make it worth it for me.”

Cardiac Science is a company that provides the public and healthcare professionals with AEDs – automated external defibrillators.

A law enforcement official typically arrives first when an incident occurs, and being supplied with a defibrillator could make difference in saving someone’s life.
