Morgantown Police Department Places AED’s in Patrol Vehicles

Morgantown, IN- The Morgantown Police Department is proud to announce the addition of automatic external defibrillators (AED’s) to all Morgantown Police Department patrol vehicles.
An AED is a portable Automated External Defibrillator used to restart someone’s heart in the event of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Ninety five percent of those who suffer from SCA die because CPR and defibrillation usually occur too late, if at all. If CPR and an AED are applied
within 5 minutes, at least 40,000 more lives per year could be saved.

The addition of AEDs in patrol vehicles will allow officers to begin potential life saving measures as soon as they arrive on the scene of a sudden cardiac arrest, which could be the difference life and death. Morgantown Police Department officers routinely respond to medical incidents and are many times the first responder to arrive at the scene of the incident.

The department purchased four AED’s through generous donations made by GMG Motors, The Indiana Rail Road Company, and Sub-Surface of Indiana. “We are very grateful to these companies that stepped up and donated these AED’s” stated Morgantown Town Marshal Ryan Swank. “It is a good feeling to have these potential life saving instruments at our disposal in the event they are needed.”

The Morgantown Police Department teamed up with Bolt for the Heart, an Indiana nonprofit organization, that allowed the department to purchase the AEDs at a discounted not for profit price of $1,500 each.
